Real Wedding | May at Mercury Hall

Carolyn and Bob’s wedding on May 14 at Mercury Hall here in Austin was months in the making. They were such a delight to work with— gardeners at their own home, interested in learning more about the floral world, they were active collaborators in developing their floral scheme that centered around the stained glass windows inside the main building. I developed a palette of soft pink, golden yellow, vine greens, vintage blue, accented by lavender, and white, while the focus always remained on taking advantage of all the incredible spring blooms available in early May.

The day of saw a total explosion of color: peonies, garden roses, geranium, bay laurel, dusty miller, ranunculus, scabiosa, mint, hydrangea, clematis, spray roses, snowberry,  and a touch of lilac. It looked wild, natural, but so very appropriate to the location.

We also created a hand-made paper flower curtain to serve as their backdrop for the ceremony. The afternoon sun caught the floating flowers and the slight breeze made everything dance. I only have the pictures, but reliable sources say that it made quite the perfect backdrop … I’m so proud of how well it turned out!

As big art patrons and collectors, J&S came to us looking for guidance on where their wedding celebration ought to take place. Considering spots […]

When we received word that the mother of the groom was set on using The Adolphus Hotel in Dallas as the scene for the welcome dinner for guests of C & C’s late January wedding, we were beyond excited. We’ve been huge fans of the elegant, light-filled 19th Floor Ballroom (also known as The Governor’s […]
