Inside a Jungle-Lush, Black-Tie Wedding at General Prim in Mexico City

Ashley and Josue, East Coast natives who met in Los Angeles, began with visions of Lake Como. But with family flying in from across the country, little ones included, the destination needed to feel transformative without being out of reach. We explored everything from the Italian lakes to the coves of Mallorca before landing on Mexico City, and the moment they found General Prim, the search was over. Upon realizing the ceremony space was too small for their guest list, we looked beyond its walls to Centro Cultural Tudor—a historic church once left to ruin, now reborn as a cultural center. Sacred in history, it was the perfect setting for their vows.

Ashley’s one non-negotiable from day one: lushness. Drawing from the venue’s own greenery and the folk art of their Dominican and Haitian heritage, we built a palette of deep greens and purples, then turned up the beat with jungle-bright oranges and yellows. Guests arrived in black tie, the women in full-length gowns in every color but black, making them a living extension of the design. For two trained dancers whose communities live to celebrate, the dance floor was always the main event. Their friend & DJ Bova flew in from LA, the couple stunned the room with a choreographed performance mid-reception, and a hora loca with alebrijes iluminados sent the night into glorious overdrive. The result: a celebration as lush and dramatic as it was wildly, joyfully colorful.
